Last materially reviewed 2026-10-03

Quick answerSimpleBackups has a free Basic plan and three paid plans: Lite $49, Plus $99 and Max $299 per month, or $39, $79 and $239 per month on yearly billing, as read on 3 October 2026.

SimpleBackups plan prices on monthly and yearly billing

SimpleBackups pricing starts at $0 for the Basic plan, then $49 per month for Lite, $99 for Plus and $299 for Max on monthly billing. On yearly billing the same plans are listed at $39, $79 and $239 per month, which the page labels as a 20% saving. All figures were read on the SimpleBackups pricing page on 3 October 2026 and can change. Enterprise is a custom contract with SSO and SLAs and has no public price.

Limits that decide the plan: database size, team members, retention

The job count is not the only limit to check. The maximum database size can force an upgrade before the job count does. Basic accepts databases up to 1 GB, Lite up to 5 GB, Plus up to 250 GB and Max up to 2 TB. A team with one 20 GB PostgreSQL database cannot run it on plain Lite, whatever the job count says.

Retention is not sold in days. It is a count of copies kept per schedule, from 1 to 10,080, and on Lite or higher it can be set to 0 so nothing is rotated out. Storage in your own bucket is unlimited on every plan, so long retention mostly costs you bucket fees, covered in what backup storage really costs.

Add-on prices for extra jobs, storage and larger databases

Each add-on is a flat monthly charge listed on the pricing page:

  • 5 more backup jobs: $10 per month
  • 50 GB more SimpleStorage: $10 per month
  • 100 GB more serverless bandwidth: $10 per month
  • Database size limit raised by 250 GB: $25 per month
  • 250,000 more objects for storage-to-storage backups: $10 per month
  • 10 more Git repositories: $10 per month

Serverless bandwidth is only used when SimpleBackups runs the dump on its own workers. Backups run over SSH or the agent on your own server use none of it.

Worked cost example: three databases, the largest 40 GB

Take a team with three PostgreSQL databases, the largest 40 GB, backed up daily to its own S3 bucket. Three jobs fit inside Lite's five. The 40 GB database does not fit inside Lite's 5 GB size limit.

Two ways to cover a 40 GB database, monthly billing
RouteCalculationMonthly cost
Lite plus size add-on$49 + $25 for +250 GB database size$74
Plus$99, 250 GB database size included$99

The pricing page lists the size add-on without tying it to a plan, so confirm at checkout that it can be attached to Lite. The $25 difference buys hourly backups, a second storage destination, unlimited team members and 20 jobs. If only one engineer touches backups and daily dumps meet your recovery objectives, the Lite route is cheaper. If two or more people need access, Plus is the first plan that allows it. The S3 bill is separate in both cases. Matching a plan to your workload walks through more cases.

Free plan, trial, refund and cancellation terms

The Basic plan is free with one backup job, 1 GB of SimpleStorage, daily frequency and email alerts. The site says no credit card is needed to start. Paid plans show a Start Trial button and the billing documentation confirms a trial period, but neither page states its length.

The pricing page states a 30-day refund: email the company within 30 days of a monthly or yearly subscription and it refunds in full. Cancelling is done under Settings, Subscription, by switching to the Basic plan. The documentation says the paid subscription ends immediately and the account moves to Basic. Backups that exceed Basic limits are locked and stop running, but nothing is deleted. Only the team Owner can cancel. If a payment fails, the docs say it is retried up to 8 times over one week before the account drops to the free plan.

Teams that only need one small database dumped daily can stay on Basic. Teams that want point-in-time recovery for PostgreSQL should price pgBackRest instead, because SimpleBackups takes scheduled dumps.
